1989 was where all the leftover awesome was stored, another superb year of releases, more than I could justly list here in a short time. The top eight are all flawless masterworks for me, I included Soundgarden because they too were playing to metal crowds before the whole grunge thing took off in the following decade, and I even caught them live on a bill with Voivod and Faith No More, before the latter had blown up. Of special note, my favorite death metal record of all time Consuming Impulse crowns my selections for the year, and my favorite industrial metal record of all time is also present in Ministry's finest hour. Lots of solid thrash, well developed speed/power metal and a few early death metal gems round out the choices.
